Hike with Malcolm

Date

Sunday, December 9, 2018 -
9:00am to 12:30pm

Hike around the Indian Head River with the Wildlands Trust Trail Guy for our last Hike with Malcolm of 2018! This 5-mile loop hike circles the upper Indian Head Reservoir crossing through Hanover, Hanson, and Pembroke. We'll start at the Town of Hanover's Luddam's Ford Park and head west upstream along trails and the old railroad bed to Broadway St. Here we'll cross the river via bridge and enter into Town of Hanson Open Space to head back downstream. Finally, we'll end up at Wildlands Trust's Tucker Preserve in Pembroke and cross the Elm St. bridge back to Luddam's Ford in Hanover. Bring a lunch and picnic with us at Luddam's Ford upon completion of the hike!

The Indian Head River is a major tributary to the North River with the majority of its shoreline protected in conservation. The habitat here is rare in Southeastern Massachusetts, with elm, hickory, ash, oak, and black birch at the river's edge and shady stands of hemlock up the river banks. Giant boulders, rock outcroppings, historic stone walls, and abandoned infrastructure help to paint a picture of the complex geological and human history along the Indian Head.

Ages 12+. Leashed dogs welcome.

Please consider bringing an item to donate to our Holiday Charity Drive to help those in need this holiday season.
